Quick start

How to convert weight

Type a value, pick the source unit, copy the result from any row in the table.

  1. Step 1
    Type the value

Enter your measurement and pick its unit. Switching units converts the displayed value so the meaning is preserved.

  2. Step 2
    Read every unit

All eight units update live — milligrams through metric tons, ounces through US short tons. The source unit is highlighted.

  3. Step 3
    Copy a row

Hit Copy on any row to grab that unit's value. Very small or large numbers switch to scientific notation automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Mass or weight?

Strictly mass — grams, kilograms and pounds are all mass units. Weight (force) varies with gravity. We use 'weight' in the title because it's what people search for; the math is mass.

Pound and ounce — avoirdupois or troy?

Avoirdupois (the everyday pound, 453.59237 g exactly). Troy ounces (~31.103 g) are used only for precious metals — gold, silver, platinum — and aren't part of this tool.

What's the difference between US short ton, UK long ton and metric ton?

US short ton = 2000 lb (≈ 907.18 kg). UK long ton = 2240 lb (≈ 1016.05 kg). Metric ton (tonne) = 1000 kg exactly. We include US short ton and metric ton; the long ton is rarely used outside historic UK shipping records.

What's a stone?

A British unit, 14 lb (≈ 6.35 kg). Still used for body weight in the UK and Ireland (e.g. '11 stone 4').

How precise is the conversion?

Up to 8 significant digits. The factors used are the 1959 international yard and pound definitions — same as every modern engineering standard.

Does this work offline?

Yes. All math runs in your browser; no request is sent during conversion.
